Birmingham, AL SNOW!
Written by chuck on March 1, 2009 – 11:37 am -It is very rare to have snow in Birmingham, Alabama. The last official snow was 3 thousand three hundred and nineteen days ago or January 28, 2000. Birmingham and central Alabama received between 1 and 4 + inches. Here are a few photos I took today on the eastern side of Birmingham. This is the East Lake and Roebuck area. There was 3 inches in my yard!.
ABC33/40 stayed on the air over 8 hours with live photos and radar updates. Yes, if you live up north, you will be laughing at us. We may not see another flake of snow for years, so this was a big event.

Barrow Sea Ice Webcam

Mt. Rainier puts on a show!
Written by chuck on December 6, 2008 – 10:30 pm -Those are called “lenticular clouds” They’re caused when the air flow is just right so when it flows over Mt. Rainier, the air gets pushed upward where it cools and condenses into clouds.

1940 Armistice Day Blizzard
Written by chuck on November 11, 2008 – 10:44 am -A perfect storm was brewing, with warm Gulf air racing into the vortex, where it mxed with extremely cold Canadian air. The Weather Bureau office in Chicago, however, was not staffed at night. So no one saw the rapidly exploding storm.
