Banana Derby

Written by chuck on September 27, 2009 – 8:48 pm -

Forget the Kentucky Derby. It’s the Banana Derby that’s all the rage at the Alabama State Fair in Pelham this week. Monkeys wearing colorful jockey outfits are perched atop dogs with saddles, riding around a track.

1936 Stainless Steel Ford

Written by Ed on August 20, 2009 – 9:02 pm -

This is the 1936 Ford Tudor Sedan built for and owned by Allegheny Ludlum Steel. This is one of only four in existence and is the only one currently in
running and road worthy condition. The car is in exceptional condition, with the interior and even the frame looking great. All four cars had over 200,000 miles on them before they were removed from service.

The cars were built for Allegheny Steel as promotional and marketing projects. The top salesmen each year were given the honor of being able to drive them For one year. The V8 engine (max 85 hp) ran like a sewing machine and was surprisingly smooth and quiet.

FYI, the car was insured (we were told) for the trip to Louisville via covered trailer for 1.5 million dollars.

We were also told the dies were ruined by stamping the stainless steel car parts, making these the last of this type Ford ever produced.

Where did my spaghetti go?

Written by chuck on July 22, 2009 – 7:57 pm -

Four weeks ago I found and saved a very small kitten, as if I needed another cat. We named her Angel. The first day, we fed it with an eye dropper. She loves my 3 dogs, and lady is a 70 pound dog that plays with the Angel!

Tonight while eating spaghetti, Angel climbed up my pants leg and got on the table and started eating my spaghetti. Lisa said I should not let her do that, but heck she looked so cute and I have never seen a kitten eat spaghetti!

I love animals! Ten years ago when my daughter was 17, she said I liked the dogs better than her. I looked at Carrie and in a very serious voice said: The dogs behave much better than you, they come when I call them, they are always happy to see me and they NEVER keep asking for money!
