Recycling

Hello Friends,

Driving to work this morning most of my neighbors have their recycle stuff next to their garbage. Seems I am the BAD GUY who does not recycle.

Many years ago, 15 years or longer, there was an article in Reader’s Digest about the cost to recycle. It was an excellent article and I sure wish I had kept a copy.

I have no idea how much extra money Trussville, AL pays to have a second truck pickup stuff to be recycled. I also have no idea where it goes when it leaves Trussville and how many folks have their hand in the recycled stuff. I guess you would need to follow dollars!

If the truth be known… well we know the truth will NOT be known.

Recycling is the Politically Correct thing to do now. Do I need to tell you how I feel about Political Correctness?

Well Chuck, here’s my take on my trash company’s recycling program. I give them everything but the aluminum cans and water/soda bottles.

Think about it, they’re charging you to recycle these items and then selling them themselves! Doesn’t make a lot sense to me.

We save the bottles/cans and then have a nice dinner or go to a movie with the money earned from our efforts.

The last time I went to a city council meeting where the garbage contract was discussed (Vestavia) it cost about $18.00 per household per month for 2 garbage and one recycle pickup per week. The last time I checked the whole idea to be in business was to make money. So yes they do make money on your garbage. I did notice that Waste Management had a nice ad on your web site, but I guess you gave that to them for free.

    Great idea skosh69.

Dah, no I did not give Waste Management a free ad. I did not see it, but it must be a Google ad.

You seem to be missing my point, sure a business must make a profit.

But we are being told to recycle because it takes less energy to create new items from recycled materials than it does to create new products from raw materials.

Sorry, but I do not buy into this. Well maybe it does take less energy, but I feel the cost is higher.
