welcome to the world of theocracy. that country is a theocratic country so for those wanting the US to become a christian theocracy, you will see that and much more. you I think need to study a bit more about Islam. now from what I know if you steal for profit or if you can pay for what you steal then this will or something like this is in your future, but if you steal because you are hungry then you are let go. the rules are a bit rough , but so are the Jewish laws.

Cat you might want to go back and read that again. This did not happen in Israel or to a Jewish child. It happened in Iran. You know the place where the idiot rules with an iron hand.

and yes it is a theocratic state like several people would like to have , so if it comes to pass the country becomes a theocratic state then you will be seeing more things like this.

I love the depth of compassion being shown by placing a towel under the boy’s arm. Why, to keep him from getting road rash when the car runs over his arm??

Cat: I love you ability to live in a world where there is only black or white, and where you determine whether any particualr gray area is black or white; where facts can be overriden by name-calling, and where HUGE mistakes are justified by lesser ones made by “the other guys”. Responsibility requires the ability to project and anticipate and not simply to accecpt and react; the path of this nation is a steep downward trajectory currently economy tanked and worsening. And we seem to be governed by a crowd that can only remedy things by asking the government to intercede and take everything over.

America became great because its government was kept small- this huge expansion in government care-taking is only a recent event, less than ninety years old, but look what it has done to our nation- created an entire sub-culture of dependency and self-imposed second-class citizenship in a body of voters who feel that it is their right to steal the money from others to pay for things that they themselves are not prepared to earn. And THAT is what will kill us- as it did the Romans. Bread and circuses.

I have enjoyed reading others take on your positions, although with limited success, and I have reszigned myself to admitting that you are part of the large body of people that simply will never “get it”

I lament the society and structure that permits the emergence of a mind like yours, but as an early patriot said “I may not agree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it”. I only wish that our civics education process had been stronger with you, or that you had not stopped learning how to debate after your triumphant debut in sixth grade debate club.

ok as far as what made the roman empire fall was a combination of a few things. One of them was the military was overextended, they started bringing others into the military. and soon it was just mercenaries that was running the wars. the populace became very complacent and did not want to do any thing for the country, bread and circuses, close but no. the rich became very self indulgent and didn’t care what happened to others. freedom was never the issue , it was closer to oppression. and on top of that the empire was split and very divided between east and west. east survived the west didn’t. and then the west was taken over by the Catholics/Christians (the beginning of the wide spread acceptance of Christianity. so social security and medicare will ruin the nation. strange concept, not unusual just strange. welfare for people bad welfare for big corporations good. still very strange. what am I suppose to get? that wealth distribution is ok if it going to the rich? yes may be we all need to stop paying taxes and become a feudal country. then it would be a pure form of free market economy. please explain to me what I need to get. I may become a conservative. but you would have to have a good argument.

    Emerson, “On Self-Reliance”

earn what you consume, or accept what you get for what it is, charity – do NOT call it entitlement, and don;t for a moment believe that you are entitled to anything, that you must earn it [including one's freedom]

would be nice if people would follow that. hasn’t happened in history and will not happen in history.

it did – in America for almost two centuries, until people found out that they could “vote” the rich into supporting them; we conquered a continent with self-reliance and inventiveness, not through government largesse and nanny-state mentalities; we can return to that notion, of self-reliance, if we simply employ one of Kant’s recommendations [Heaven forbid]: no one should vote that is dependent on the government for sustenance since they have a corruptible vested interest in increasing the governmental outlay- one should be entitled to vote, much like the same way one earns quarterly credits for Social Security- if you have held down a job for a certain number of quarters within the election year, vote; but I can already hear the screaming about disenfranchising all those people who have become dependent on the government teat for their entire existence; screams of “poll tax” and repression are already welling up in your mind as you read this, I am sure

Voting should be earned; it should be inclusive. but it should be formulated so that the masses that receive cannot extend or deepen their entitlement franchise at the expense of those who are earning their way through life
