I finally heard Hillary say something I can agree with her on!

Hillary said: “While sticking it out might not be for everyone, Mrs. Clinton said women should support each other in the choices they make in their marriages.”

DVD-RW drive is slower than expected on Vista

Written by Ed on October 25, 2007 – 9:10 pm -

If you’re getting read speeds with your DVD-RW drive on a Vista computer that are much slower than they should be, it’s probably because the speed was set during a write operation and did not reset. You may have to restart the operating system (for internal drives) or the drive itself (for external drives) to get the drive to read at its default speed. There is a hotfix to solve this problem. See KB article 942869 at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/942869/en-us

I didn’t understand NASCAR until I met some NASCAR fans. You talk to a couple of NASCAR fans and you’ll see where a shiny car driving in a circle would fascinate them all day. I can make fun of NASCAR fans because if they chase me, I’ll just turn right. Alonzo Bodden

Cleaning up the XP Start menu

Written by Ed on October 24, 2007 – 9:39 pm -

Is your XP Start menu more cluttered than you’d like? Do you want to get rid of some of the choices there that you rarely use, or for which you might have desktop icons? First, right click Start Bar and select Properties then click the Customize button next the Advanced tab. In the Start Menu Items list, scroll down to the options that you don’t want to display (such as the My Pictures folder) and click “Don’t display this item.”

You can do this for all the standard choices, such as My Documents, My Computer, My Music, Control Panel, Network Connections and so forth.

Stinky Atlanta

Written by chuck on October 24, 2007 – 4:45 pm -

I am not into doomsday stories, and I feel Atlanta will get rain and they will not run out of water. But let’s assume they do run out of water on February 1, 2008. This could be a larger disaster than 911 and Katrina.

While I feel our government, under the proper leadership, could supply enough bottled water for drinking purposes, there are many other things to consider.

Since there would be no water to flush the toilets, all businesses would have to close down. Any fires that got started would continue to burn. Atlanta is a major postage hub, and while UPS and FedEx would be able to route their packages to other hubs, I don’t have that much confidence in the postal service.

Can you imagine how stinky your homes would become in a few days without flushing your toilets?!

System Restore in Vista

Written by Ed on October 23, 2007 – 9:34 pm -

The system restore used in XP and other previous versions of Windows is replaced with a new method in Vista. In Vista, when you create a restore point, a shadow copy of a file or folder is created. A shadow copy is essentially a previous version of the file or folder at a specific point. Windows Vista can create restore points automatically, or do so when you ask. When the system needs to be restored, files and settings are copied from the shadow copy to the live volume used by Windows Vista. To find shadow copies for a particular file, navigate to that file in Windows Explorer, right click it and select Properties. Then click the Previous Versions tab. Here you’ll see the shadow copies that have been saved on the hard disk and the date when each was created. To find the actual location of the copy, right click it, select Properties, and look at the Location field on the General tab.
