Killing God… A movie for kids?
Written by chuck on October 27, 2007 – 8:06 am -THE GOLDEN COMPASS, a new movie targeted at children, will be released December 7, 2007.
This movie is based on a the first book of a trilogy by atheist Philip Pullman. In the final book a boy and girl kill God so they can do as they please. Pullman left little doubt about his intentions when he said in a 2003 interview that “My books are about killing God.”

They have a right to play the movie, but we should boycott all movies at any theater playing this movie.
A boycott will not happen, we are too busy and complacent.

Lets take this from the bottom.
You are so right — “A boycott will NOT happen, we are too busy and complacent”. Most parents will not even ask where the kids are going or which movie they plan to watch. Give the kids enough money to go to the movie and they’ll be able to have peace and quiet for a couple of hours.
Most people really do NOT know or understand this country was founded by men and women who were believers. The preamble to the Constitution says; “…secure the Blessings of Liberty …”; presently, where do people believe these “Blessings” come from ?
The Declaration of independence acknowledges “The Creator” in proclaiming that all men are created equal, where the hell do these people now get the idea of taking “GOD” out of our laws ??
I am NOT an evangelical, do not consider myself a religious man but, the very first ammendment says; … “or prohibiting the free exercise of…” I can understand any IDIOT writing a book or making a movie denying God, I just will NOT buy the book nor pay to see the damn movie.

Truer words were never spoken. However, the ACLU will jump on the bandwagon for this one. Their reasoning; even atheists have freedom of speech. Now, to play the devil’s advocate…If you know the history of Christmas, it was originally a pagan holiday: the winter solstice. A holiday known in Europe was celebrated not as the birth of a messiah, but to drink, dance, and engage in general debauchery. When the Pilgrims settled the 13 colonies, they banned the holiday since it was wicked and fraught with sin. But, having so many people coming from Europe with the holiday engrained, the Pilgrims began to attach religious symbols in the decorations that were used to smooth over and atone for the sinfulness of the meaning. Things like the wreath to signify God’s unending life, the evergreen tree to signify the Holy Trinity, the red and white candy cane bent at one end to represent a shepherds staft, and the red and white stripes to signify the 39 lashes Christ received, and an angel on the top of the tree representing Gabriel that announced the Holy Birth, as well as a plethora of other religious icons through this and other symbols. Christmas not only became a religious holiday, but it became strictly an American celebration in the way it is celebrated. Now, the athiests would have a reason to bitch. I guess they are wanting equal time. Putting religion aside, what about consequences of one’s actions in the movie? If you murder someone, then you must face the consequences…obviously, the athiests believe they are above reproach. Right.

Bonnie, you are so right about the history of Christmas. It was a pagan holiday and it was so for many years after the first Europeans landed on these shores. Then the changes began.
Why castigate the ACLU? Their sole and only reason for existence is protection of The Bill of Rights. I will protect your rights to disagree with anyone but, YOU must protect my rights to disagree with YOU. That is the main reason George W. MORON and his minions have brought this country where we are NOW. They have brought it down to – if you disagree with me, “YOU ARE AN UNAMERICAN, A TRAITOR.” That is what some people have said of their beliefs to me.
I do not care if you are an ilegal immigrant, a politician or whatever, YOU break the law, YOU must face the consequences.
Now, what scares me is, if you have enough money to pay a slew of bottom feeders lawyer to obfuscate the law, a la O.J., Larry Graig, Mark Foley, YOU will get away with ANYTHING !!
